Character Analysis

My character is a 30 years old man, who is living in North Korea with his wife and has a daughter who is studying in North Korea. As the only man in the family, I think the character should be shown as a reliable father who feels responsible for his family. Also, the origin of the character is the boy in Children of the Sea, so I think my character should be knowledgeable and brave. Considering the story of our scene is the father and mother escape from North Korea to South Korea, I think those characteristics fit with the father. He cares about his family, so he wants all of them can live together. He is knowledgeable and brave so he plans the to escape. I want my character can show the characteristic from the boy that I can relate my scene with the original story, then add the new characters based on the family situation can allow my character become more interesting.

On the other hand, the character should walk slowly because he is not a young man as well as he has a lot of hard works in North Korea. The way he talks should be very similar to the boy, who talks like a scholar and has logic. I will find many direct lines from the book in his lines to show this. Talking will be a good way to show the connections between character and the boy. Also, the way he talks should be softer to his family and harder to other people. He should also show his cares through his actions, like reminding his wife to be careful in his letters.

The father’s love to his family brings out the main motivation of the character will be his love toward his family. I will state in both lines as well as in the letters that the father thinks about the family all the time. He wants to protect his family as well as gives his family a better life. But he has to trick all the border guider of North Korea and risks his life to get into South Korea. The boy in Children of the Sea is going to university to studying,  my character should be as smart as when the boy finish his study in university. This lets him create a plan that can both he and his wife escape successfully.

In total, the main ideas of my character are he should be the boy from Children of the Sea, who is grown up and has a family. I think it will be interesting to show both the characteristic he has as the boy, and as the father in our scene.
